This is America

Okay, not really, but this is definitely the essence of an American fair.  Home of everything fried.  Mark and our friends end up trying fried cheesecake.

We spent our past Sunday at the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa and had a great time.  This was Mark and my first time to go and we went with the company of our friends.  There are a ton of things to do there ranging from rides, to games, to performances, to exhibits, and to, of course, food.  The food is what you expect it to be: giant sized BBQ, fried everything, and sweets galore.  We mainly played games and ate and ate.  Mark was determined to win a giant banana at one of the basketball games, but he couldn’t make a basket.  One day, babe!  You’ll get it.  At the end, we watched a hypnotist show and Mark was chosen to volunteer.  I was laughing my head off the whole time he was up there.  Before the show, he kept saying how he was a non-believer and even now, he still keeps denying the fact that it all happened.  Unfortunately, he “woke up” in the middle and he was escorted off the stage.  I was so sad!  I really wanted to watch him do the rest of the show.  Oh well, at least I got to see him dance and do the macarena, speed macarena to win $1 million.

I told myself before we left to not drink a lot (bad idea) since I didn’t want to use porta-potties, but I was extremely happy and relieved that they had clean, real bathrooms.  REAL BATHROOMS!  My hair was so gross by the end of the day.  I don’t understand how girls can have nice hair by the end of the day after sweating, BBQ smoke, and all these fair aromas all up in their hair.

And look at Mark with his giant western hot dog… soooo happy.  He even has drool and mayo on his face!  I’m also not really sure why and how that 2 foot sausage on a stick ended up on my camera…

It was a lot of fun! I should have gone there more since it’s so close, but I’m glad I at least got to go once. He’s always like that with food he loves haha!

Oh man! I love fairs in the summer time! One of my favorite old America things to do. Gorgeous shots and now I am totally craving some fair food.

Haha, that sounds like you guys had a good time! I wanna go to a fair!!!! No fair! Haha! ;) But seriously, I had forgotten about these… okay, next summer, for sure! Mmm, fried foods, rides, and attempting to win stuffed animals at overpriced carnival games — that IS America! (And other wonderful things of course!) This will be a fun lasting memory to have before Japan! Way to make the most of your time before you head out (but I’m sure all the memories you make there will be fun and lovely as well!).

I’m so glad that we ended up going to the fair, because it was a lot of fun and I get to take those memories with me to Japan. You should definitely go some time! It’s weirdly comforting and exciting to be at a fair haha!
